- Insieme a queste prospettive, sorge però anche un importante dubbio etico: cosa significherà essere "umani" in un mondo sempre più "cyborg" e "transumano"?
From Hand to Mind (and Beyond?)
The hand and the mind have always represented a classic pair of central concepts for philosophical reflection. Even amongst the ancient Greeks, Anaxagoras and Aristotle discussed the connection between human intelligence and dexterity. In the 21st century, now that biorobotics has united in an artificial hand its technological possibilities with the knowledge of the nervous system, several questions have been raised on the next steps to take in this research field – from brain-controlled exoskeletons to the artificial eye, including the most futuristic hypothesis of "artificial brain backups."
- An ethical doubt rises along with these questions: What does it mean to be "human" in a "trans-human" world of cyborgs?
